FIRE APPLIANCE DRIVER / OPERATOR: MOBILE WATER SUPPLY(Learnership)

The Fire Appliance Driver / Operator: Mobile Water Supply skills programme is designed to prepare learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely drive and operate a mobile water supply appliance during fire and rescue operations.

This programme focuses on the safe and effective operation of a mobile water supply appliance in response to emergencies and other on-site conditions. Learners are introduced to fire mobile water supply operations, preventative maintenance, vehicle inspections, emergency communication, defensive driving techniques, and the correct use of fire appliance systems and equipment.

The programme also prepares learners to conduct visual and operational checks on mobile water supply vehicles and components, identify and report possible faults or anomalies, and ensure that the appliance is ready for emergency response. Learners will understand how to operate within the Road Traffic Act and follow established Standard Operating Procedures.

Through the practical component, learners gain experience in pre-trip inspections, vehicle manoeuvring, restricted-space driving, emergency communication, mobile water supply appliance inspections, water shuttle fill site positioning, water shuttle dump site positioning and the construction of water shuttle dump sites.

By completing this programme, learners will be better prepared to function as Fire Appliance Drivers / Operators who can support firefighting and emergency rescue teams through safe, reliable and efficient mobile water supply operations.
